Directions

Introduce the teddy and doll to the children. Explain that teddy and doll are hungry and show the children the toy foods. Check the children know the names of the foods. Try and use the children’s language in your instructions, for example, if a child is calling the toy bread “toast” use the word “toast” in your instruction.

Sit the teddy and doll on your lap.

Give each child an instruction, for example, “Give teddy the banana to eat.” The child then selects the food and the toy and pretends to feed teddy the banana.

To make the activity motivating when the child has fed the toy make it:

This activity can be made more difficult by adding another information carrying word to the instructions, for example: “Give teddy the banana and the burger to eat.” Or “Give doll the big banana to eat” - when there is a choice of two sizes of food.

This activity can be made into an expressive language activity by getting the children to give the adult the instruction. Ask the other children in the group to check if the adult did it right.
