The colouring sheets needed for this activity can be drawn by hand and then photocopied (please then scan these in and attach them as a resource to this idea!) or compiled using a symbol writing package: select the black and white symbols.
Very simple worksheets can be made containing just 4 large pictures. To make more complicated worksheets think about using concepts such as size or prepositions.
The very simple worksheet, with 4 pictures, can be used to practice following instructions with 1 information carrying word by giving each child just one colouring pencil.
Below are example instructions, increasing in complexity:
- Colour the dog.
- Colour the dog in green.
- Colour the dog’s tail in green.
- Colour the big dog’s tail in green.
- Colour the tail of the big dog who is under the table in green!
- Before you colour the small cat red, colour the big dog green.
Depending on the group of children and the size of the table you may be able to give all the children the same instruction, or to prevent copying, each child may need their own instruction.
