Abstract
One group member chooses a picture card, for example of a ball. The group member then thinks of a word (real or nonsense) that rhymes with ball. The picture is passed around the group, with each child generating a new rhyming word.

Directions

Spread a range of picture cards, face down, on the table in front of the group.

The first group member chooses a picture, and labels it for the group, for example, ‘bike’. He or she then thinks of a word that rhymes with ‘bike’ - rhyming words can be real or nonsense.

The picture is then passed to the next group member, who thinks of a different rhyming word and then passes the picture on around the group.

The adult can take a turn and try and “trick” the group by suggesting a word that doesn’t rhyme with the target picture.

You could adapt this activity by using real or toy objects that are selected from a feely bag, instead of pictures.
