method
Directions
Cut out a range of newspaper headlines from the day’s papers. Choose headlines which vary in length and concreteness, from at least two different newspapers.
Photocopy (and enlarge if necessary) the headlines, so that each group member has their own copy.
Present the headlines to the group, one at a time. Read the headline aloud and ask the group what they think the story is about.
Group members can contribute at their own level, for example, by drawing, using single words, or gestures or by discussing their opinion of the story.
This activity can also be used to practice monitoring turn length.
Adapt this activity by asking each group member to bring a favourite headline to the next therapy session or by blanking out one of the words in the headline and asking the group to generate the missing word.
