method
Directions
Have a selection of pictures of objects spread out face down on the table.
Each child chooses two pictures and explains to the group one way in which the objects pictured are the same, and one way in which they are different.
For example, if the two pictures were of a pair of scissors and a glue stick. A child could say: “both of them are found in a classroom. But you cut with scissors and join things together with glue.” If the items are not so semantically related, the children may need to be more inventive with their responses.
Ask the other group members if they have more ideas about how the items are the same and different, before moving on to the next child, who has chooses two different pictures.
