method

Directions

Take a long cardboard tube (the kind that posters come in) and decorate it with wrapping paper or stickers. Use toy cars and balls (that fit through easily!) of different colours and sizes.

The activity is simple and motivating; the child takes a toy, posts it into the tube and watches it pop out at the bottom.

The child listens to an instruction and has a turn posting something down the tube. Depending on the child’s level of language, vary the instruction:

Basic turn-taking: your turn (present one car / ball to post)

1 information carrying word: post the car / ball

2 information carrying words: post the yellow / red, car/ball

3 information carrying words: post the big / little, yellow / red, car / ball
