Abstract
Hide a motivating toy in a bag and a box that the children can’t see though. Offer each child a choice: “bag or box?” The child can then play with the toy for a minute, before its hidden again and its the next child’s turn.

Directions

Use this idea to encourage choice making. Children can make a choice according to their level for example, by looking, reaching or verbally.

Find a medium sized, attractive looking bag and box, that the children can’t see through.

Find a selection of motivating toys; things that make noises or move are good - wind up toys can also be used to encourage children to ask for help.

Hide one toy in the bag and a different one in the box. Hold the bag in one hand and the box in the other; ask the child, “Do you want bag or box?” When the child has chosen give them the bag / box to open and let them play with the toy inside for a minute. Then explain, “your turn has finished” and hide the toy again, before offering the next child the same choice.

To encourage eye contact, hold the bag and box up at eye level, on either side of your face.
