Directions

Children sit on the floor in a circle. Each child then holds on to a part of the edge of the lycra (2 square metres?). The children wait for the signal for example, “Ready, steady, pull!” and then all pull on the lycra to stretch it. Use another signal (“And stop!”) to indicate when the children can relax and release the lycra.

When all the group members are very familiar with the game, each child can take a turn leading the group. Encourage the other children to look at the leader. Children could indicate when the peers should pull / stop by clapping their hands or shaking an instrument.

A variation of this game involves bouncing a ball or small soft toy on top of the cloth when it is pulled tight. This encourages the group to focus on the same thing. Use appropriate vocabulary, like “bounce, bounce, bounce” or “up, up, up.” This activity can also be used to encourage children to ask for more.
